TEEN SUICIDE/PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION WORKSHOP

Teen Suicide / Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Workshop

GRADE: 6-12

Description:

Having attended hundreds of suicides in my 27 years of policing, I know that suicide is rarely a sudden event. It is something that the victim almost always plans in advance. Though it is very difficult to stop a person how is determined to take their own life, there are signs given that indicate they are thinking about taking such a drastic course of action.

As parents, and adults we worry about our children experimenting with street drugs, marijuana, cocaine, heroin and more and more, fentanyl, yet these drugs are not the most commonly used drugs by our teens. Prescription drugs such as Gabapentin, Morphine, Hydromorphone, and Demerol is what’s available to them. It’s these drugs that are causing issues in our communities, not the high priced street drugs.
